Gresford Athletic Colts Brymbo Reserves Saturday 10th. March 2007
League Cup Semi-Final
Darland school playing surface was always going to spoil the proceedings in this semi final and it was almost a non starter with Brymbo not happy with the surface (rightly so) But the game started with both teams having to adapt the flowing football they are both known to produce and it was Gresford who seemed to adapt the better in the opening 15mins and up the scoring from a cross off Will Eastwood and Tomas Hughes got the all important touch to steer the ball into the back of the net. With Gresford defending a strong wind and playing some good attacking football it looked like they would go in at half time a goal to the good, but Brymbo had other ideas and scored 2 quick goals to take them in the lead at Half time. Gresford had some fine chances to get back into this game and after a few that went begging it was Michael Latham who got them back on level terms with a tough of class, he began to see more of the ball and weaved his way through the defence and lash one into the goal. The rest of the game was end to end and brought a few half chances either end. Even the two periods of extra time could not break the deadlock and penalties loomed. It was Brymbo who held their nerve to go through 3 -4 on pens.
