Gresford Athletic Vs. Llandyrnog united |
An 80th minute equaliser from the head of substitute Rich Carr saw Gresford salvage a point from this crucial home tie which ended with Llandyrnog down to 10 men after captain Chris Williams was shown his second yellow card by referee Martin Trigg. Poor play from Gresford gave Llandyrnog a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 8th minute when the ball was given away from a throw in deep inside the visitors half and saw Mark Roberts ran through the Gresford midfield and defence to link up with Neil Davies on the right who fed the ball back to him to head it home past Gareth Rowland who had been left stranded by his defence. In the 22nd minute Darren Jones was caught in the chest with a high boot and following treatment was replaced by Kevin Hope which saw the home side reshape and take the game to the visitors with keeper Arwel Hughes pulling off a number of fine saves which kept the visitors in the lead at the interval. The second half saw the introduction of goal scorer Rich Carr for the injured Jamie Pugh who had taken a bad knock just before the interval and whilst Gresford looked the stronger side, keeper Hughes continued to keep the visitors hopes high of taking all 3 points away from Clapper Lane. Tom Hughes replaced Owen Roberts in the Gresford attack in the 66th minute and his strength and pace no doubt troubled the visitors who had been reduced to 10 men in the 75th minute but Gresford were unable to capitalise on this until the 80th minute when Rich Carr popped up behind the Llandyrnog defence to meet a good ball into the area from Kev Hope. Gresford maintained the pressure on the visitors but failed to make the most of the extra man in the final 10 minutes with both sides taking a point from this physical test which will see a number of players facing fitness tests before next weeks trip to Penrhyncoch |
