In very winding conditions Gresford started well with their first chance falling to Jon Taylor whose shot flew over the bar. Bala's first chance came after twenty five minutes when a good cross was headed wide. Warren Ducket almost created the first Bala goal but his excellent cross failed to find anybody. Gresford then had goalkeeper Gareth Rowland to thank as he brought off an excellent save to tip a header over the bar. Rowland also tipped a shot over the bar as Bala looked likely to go ahead just before the interval.

Gresford almost went ahead at the start of the second half, a great shot from Eddie Morris-Jones hitting the bar with the keeper well beaten. Gresford were grateful to Rowland again has he raced from to block and then made a great save to prevent Bala taking the lead. Bala were now the better team but great defending by Max Peate (pictured) and Steve Halliwell kept Gresford in contention. As the game reached the final ten minutes both sides went looking for the all important first goal and it came when Neil Fisher hit a great volley into the roof of the net to give Bala the lead. Gresford went looking for the equaliser but Fisher scored a last minute second to see off any chance Gresford had of taking the game into extra time.
