Guilsfield put Gresford under some eraly pressure but with Max Peate and Steve Halliwell in commanding form they could not find a way through to a clear cup chance. In fact it was Gresford who had the first goal bound effort, Shaun Williams firing over the bar. Wyn Jones then created a great chance for Gresford but his great ball across the six yard box evaded everybody. Guilsdfielf kept Gareth Rowland in home goal busy but he was in commanding form.

Gresford started the second half on the attack but found themselves one down after fifty one minutes when Andy Reeve fired home an unstoppable shot from just inside the penalty area. Gresford almost equalised five minutes later when Danny Purdie forced Guilsfield player manager Mike Barton to tip his twenty yarder over the bar. Eddie Morris-Jones then created a chance for himself but was off target with his final shot. Wyn Jones thenn blocked a Guilsfield shot on the line and another Guilsfield effort flew over the bar. Rowland in the home goal then had to come off his line to block another attempt as Guilsfield looked to seal a win. Gresfored piled on the pressure in the final ten minutes with Phil Jones and Chris Newman going close to scoring an equaliser
