Gresford started the game brightly and Alan Williams almost opened the scoring on ten minutes with a shot that went narrowly wide. A Wyn Jones free kick then caused panic in the Halkyn defence but came to nothing. Gresford's early dominance deserved a goal and it came from Kevin Hope as he latched onto a Alan Williams pass and fired passed the keeper. Davies chose to shot instead of passing to a well placed Craig Williams. Five minutes later and Halkyn almost drew level but Gareth Rowland in the home goal came off his line well to block. Halkyn did draw level on forty minutes after Chris Newman was adjudged to have handled in the penalty area, Ian Swindle slotting home the spot kick. Gresford almost went ahead on the stoke of half time, a great run and pass by Max Peate finding Matt Davies who was given off side. Gresford started the second half on top and within two minutes great Kevin Hope through ball found Josh Page who beat the keeper to put Gresford ahead again. Alan Williams should have added to Gresford lead before Josh Page added his second of the game with a great chip from twenty yards. Shaun Williams then rattled the Halkyn bar with a pile driver before Halkyn were awarded a second penalty after a foul by Wyn Jones, Swindle again successful from the spot. On seventy two minutes Halkyn were awarded a third penalty of the game, this time after Chris Newman brought down Swindle, Swindle completed his hatrick to put Halkyn level at three all. Five minutes later Gresford were ahead again, Craig Williams scoring after a great ball by Shaun Williams which split the Halkyn defence. Gresford then made a double substitution introducing two sixteen year old to the game. Gresford increased their lead when Craig Williams rose well to power home a Shaun Williams corner. Shaun Williams sealed Gresford place in the next round with a great run and shot passed the Halkyn keeper for well deserved goal in his man of the match performance
