FIRST TEAM MATCH REPORT
Holyhead Hotspurs 1 Gresford Athletic 1 Saturday 9th. September 2006

After an even start to the game Holyhead went ahead in the fourtenth minute after a mix-up in the Gresford defence gifted Curt Williams a goal. Holyhead then had a chance to increase the lead but a close range header was directed over the bar. Gresford then created a chance of their own from a well worked freekick, Phil Jones narrowly off target. Phil Jones converted a penalty as Gresford earned a point on their travels

on the half hour mark, Phil Jones converting a penalty after Craig Williams was fouled as he raced onto a great Shaun Williams pass. Gresford then dominated the final fifteen minutes of the half with Wyn Jones, Matt Davies and Josh Page at the forefront of most of their good play. Seventeen year old Max Peate had to be at his best at the heart of the Gresford defence as Holyhead started the second half on top. Substitute Kevin Hope then forced the Holyhead keeper into a decent save at the near post after good work by Wyn Jones and Matt Davies. Good defending by the Gresford back four reduced any ideas Holyhead of creating worth while chances and with Alan and Shaun Williams dominating midfield Gresford looked the more likely to take the three points. Wyn Jones tried his luck from twenty yards out put his effort did little more than crate havoc amoung the sheep in a close by field. Substitute Danny Purdie than almost created a winning goal for Matt Davies and Craig Williams shot just passed the post after a Kevin Hope pass created the chance in the final minmute of the game.
