Gresford made 2 changes to the side that beat Buckley on Saturday, Stephen Halliwell replaced the injured Russell Pritchard and Nathan Pugh replaced the rested Alan Williams. For the 1 st hour this was a pretty even with no side dominating, nevertheless it was a competitive encounter. It was Gareth Rowland's who was the 1 st keeper to be tested saving well from a close range header off a corner. The home side were causing the Gresford defence problems with their direct play especially Jon Slater whose flicks and strength were suited to United's aerial bombardment. For Gresford Josh Page's short passing kept the ball moving and Nathan Pugh's strength and ball winning skills showed what potential he has. Gresford started to get back into the game as Phil Jones twice got to the by-line only for a deep cross to evade everyone and then what looked like a penalty not to be given. Llan responded with a couple of long range efforts before Dan Brown hit a speculative 30 yard volley that the keeper had trouble dealing with.

More of the same was the team talk in the away changing room and for the 1 st 10 minutes it looked like we were heading for a stalemate between 2 evenly matched teams. Whilst Gresford manager Alan Jones plotted making changes the home team scored. A ball over the top of the defence allowed Jon Slater to get in between the Athletic defence and hit a low shot past Rowland. Soon after the home side were two up after a 30 yard free kick was taken quickly by sub Roger Beech whilst Rowland was still lining the wall up. A good example of quick thinking catching us out whereas the 1 st goal could be put down to ball watching and switching off. Sammy introduced Alex Game and Mike Latham for Josh Page and Craig Williams. Alex and Tom continued too work hard but on a bumpy pitch with little grass found it hard. Latham's introduction brought some life into Gresford's attacking play3 times bursting into the box only to see his shots go wide and hit the post. The home side went 3 up as Mark Roberts got free to seal, the points for United, it wasn't until the last minute that Gresford got on the score sheet, Alan Williams ball into Alex Game saw the striker nudged in the back and Phil Jones tucked away the penalty. A disappointing night for Gresford as they completed their away fixtures and still looking for consistency that would see them climb the table.
