Penrhyncoch created the first chance of the game which went over the bar but it was Gresford who played the better football for the remainder of the half. They took the lead on fourteen minutes when Ben Jones side footed hone a Eddie Morris-Jones cross.They were two up in the twenty fifth minute when Phil Jones converted after his penalty kick had been saved. Penrhyncoch had their goalkeeper sent off in the incident that lead to the penalty. Craig Williams having rounded the keeper but was brought down as he seemed certain to score. Williams added Athletic's third in the thirty fifth minute after good work by Morris-Jones. Ben Jones and Shaun Williams had good chances to increase Gresford's lead but it was Craig Williams who scored the home teams's fourth after a Stef Edwards run created the chance.

penrhyncoch started the second half looking for a goal to give them heart but solid defending from Steve Halliwell and Steve Cowap prevented them from creating anything. Williams scored the third of a well deserved hatrick on eighty two minutes from a Ryan Billington cross. Penrhyncoch to their credit kept pushing forward and scored a consolation from Ashley Stevens in the last minute.
