The first action of the game saw Danny Purdie round the home keeper only to see his shot kicked off the line. Mike Pratt in the Gresford goal then made a good save to prevent Penrhyn taking the lead. They did go ahead in the eleventh minute with a shot into the corner from Josh Shaw. Three minutes later and Platt brought down Gavin Allen as he raced towards goal and was shown the red card, Allen scoring the resulting penalty passed stand in keeper Steve Halliwell. Allen then made it three after poor defending by Gresford. On twenty minutes the game was over when Allen completed his hatrick. A dreadful first half performance went from bad to wore as Chris Wilkins added Penrhyn's fifth. Gresford to their credit finished the half with Danny Purdie and Craig Williams having good chances with the formers shot coming back off the post. On the stoke of half time Gavin Allen almost took his first half total to four with a shot that came back off the bar.

Ten man Gresford tried to make an effort to get back into the game at the start of the second half with the ever willing Craig Williams creating a chance for Ryan Billington that he blasted over the bar. Penrhyncoch went six up on seventy minutes before Craig Williams scored two in two minutes top salvage a bit of pride for Athletic. But it was Gavin Allen who added his sides seventh taken his personnel tally to four in the last minute. A game Gresford will want to forget quickly as they strive to get away from the wrong end of the table.
