In a very even opening ten minutes Phil Jones came closet to opening the scoring with a cross shot that was tipped over the bar. Criag Williams then forced the Penycae keeper into another good save. Penycae had a great chance to take the lead but heded straight at Gareth Rowland in the home goal. Rowland then saved at the feet of a Penycae striker. Steve Brookes should have given Penycae the lead but fired wide when well placed. Brookes then brought the best out of Rowland as Penycae got the upper hand. But in an end to end first half Craig Williams saw his goal bound shot hacked off the line.

Penycae took the game to Gresford at the start of the second half with Brookes again missing a great opportunity to give his side the lead. The same player then saw his shot on the turn brilliantly saved by Rowland as Penycae gave the Gresford defence a real test. Gresford held out with some great defensive play by Max Peate and Kevin Tood and fine keeping by Gareth Rowland to take the game into extra time.
Gresford started extra time playing a lot better than they had in normal time and after a good interchange of passes substutute fired home from twelve yards to give them the lead. They could have increased this lead as they began to show some of ther capabilities.At the start of the second peeriod Penycae pushed Gresford back looking for the goal that would bring them a deserved Equaliser. They got it in the last minute when Ian Andrews fired home after slack play by Gresford.
