FIRST TEAM MATCH REPORT
Ruthin Town 1 Gresford Athletic 4 Saturday 25th. November 2006

In what could be described as a must in game for both sides it was rethink who had the early attacks, but with the inform Steve Halliwell marshalling his defence well Gresford thwarted anything Ruthin threw at them. Gresford gradulay got into their rhythm and started to play possession football with Craig Williams almost given them the lead after a good ball found him in space. Ruthin then had thee best effort which forced Gareth Rowland in the Gresford goal to tip over the bar. Gresford went ahead on twenty three minutes when Craig Williams headed home a Shaun Williams free kick. Eddie Morris-Jones came close to doubling the lead but his shot flashed past the post. Gresford won a corner on thirty seven minutes and the Shaun Williams, Craig Williams combination worked again as the later scored with a fine right footed shot. Two minutes later the lively Craig Williams was brought down in the penalty area and Phil Jones converted to put Gresford three up at the interval

As expected Ruthin came out looking for the goal that would get them back into the game, this came fret poor defending by Gresford allowed Endive Jones to score from close range. Phil Jones had a great chance to restore Greenford's three goal advantage but he scuffed his shot when well placed. On sixty two minutes Gresford sealed a vital away win when player coach Alan Williams fired home a rare goal with a rasping twenty five yarder into the roof of the net. Ruthin did pile on late pressure trying to get a goal back but with Steve Halliwell defending well Gresford gained three much need points to climb up the table
