The Presentation Night at any club is the timely end to the season. Numbers at the event, just like the vast majority of our ‘fundraisers' seemed lower than usual but it did not prevent everyone who attended from having a first class night. Chas and Julian proved to be a great double act as MC's and we obviously have not to look any further than Geoff Taylor when we chose to book our next comic, you could tell he loved every minute of his little ten minute repartee after presenting all of the Awards. Sam came over a little more subdued than normal but what you see is what you get from Sammy, a true Gresford man through and through. It is traditional now that Sam shares his most magical moment which was the story about Johnny Taylor arguing the toss about his age with a bar-tender on the way home from Anglesey. Anxious to prove his point, he blasted “I am not 17, I am 16” Ady had been warned by his charming wife Claire not hog the microphone but he is at his best in front of an audience. He kept to the script rather well and he delivered a warm and entertaining address which was met with much applause. As for the Awards, Shaun Williams picked up the coveted First XI Players Player of the Season and this was no surprise as he continues to grow in stature and has become the completed article. Alan Williams was given the First Team Merit Award. Slap as he better known to his chums earned this for his continued support to Sammy and know doubt for lifting the mood in the dressing room so well. Paul
"Keeno" Jones for the second time in three years collected the Reserves Player of the season. There is nothing spectacular about his game although he does pass a good ball and has proved to be truly consistent in the centre of midfield. Paul Chaloner got a great round of applause when his name was read out as the winner of the Reserves Merit Award. Chal is another great example of being a great clubman an is Gresford through and through. It was no surprise that Johnny Taylor collected the most improved young player award although he was pressed by Owen Roberts and Max Peate. There was a fitting end to the Awards Ceremony when Chas Rowland was provided with the Stan Hughes Clubman of the Year Trophy and Chas was given a standing ovation.
