The game started with both sides looking for the break through, but neither produced a goal bound effort for the first twenty minutes. The first came to Gresford when Alan Williams got on the end of a Phil Jones free kick but his header did not trouble the Bala keeper who made a comfortable catch. Mike Gronnow then had to make a great block to prevent Bala taking the lead

Phil Jones was next to try his luck for the home side but his volley went well over the bar. Wyn Jones then fired in a great free kick from the right that evaded everybody when a goal looked odds on. With time running out the referee angered the home crowd by showing a second yellow card to Shuan Williams to reduce Gresford to ten men

Gresford had to rearrange their line up with Danny Purdie moving into defence and Dave Lloyd replacing the injured Alan Williams. Wyn Jones moved into midfield and he was first to create a chance but his shot come cross sailed over the bar. Danny Purdie then played a great ball to Craig Williams but he failed to connect cleanly with the ball. Bala has a good chance from a corner but Neil Davies headed well wide. A Gresford corner then caused panic in the Bala defence but their keeper dived to thwart the danger . Bala then went ahead on sixty five minutes Neil Fisher firing home with a angled drive.

They then had a strong penalty decision turned down. With time running out and the light faded fast Gresford were awarded a free kick twenty yards from goal which Danny Purdie chipped over the wall and into the corner for the equaliser on eighty four minutes. Then in the last minute Neil Fisher latched onto a Mike Gronnow mistake and with the aid of a blatent hand ball put Bala in front for what seemed to be the winner. But the never say die attitude of Gresford forced a corner in added on time which Danny Purdie converted from eight yards to earn a well deserved point for the ten men.
