The first ten minutes were even as both teams sought for an advantage BUT on eleven minutes Gresford gifted Buckley the opening goal. A mix up between Kevin Todd and Gareth Rowland with a bit of help from the pitch saw an easy chance converted. This did nothing to Gresford's confidence and they should have been level straight away, chances falling to Simon Holloway, Craig Williams and Danny Purdie who all failed to finish.

A long clearance for Rowland in the Gresford goal then found Simon Holloway who created havoc in the home defence and this resulted in a Purdie shot being cleared off the line. Phil Jones then swung over a free kick from the left that Kevin Todd headed onto the Buckley bar, Craig Williams following up should have equalised but his effort was cleared off the line. Gresford then went two down as a long ball out of defence by Buckley eluded Shaun Williams and was converted from just inside the area. With half time nearing Gresford found it hard to believe they were two goals down after they had created at least five excellent chances of their own. On the stroke of half time their luck changed as Danny Purdie created a chance for Craig Williams that he converted at the second attempt.

With time running out Gresford were causing Buckley all sorts of problems and finally got the goal they deserved with five minutes remaining. a Simon Holloway corner being converted by Jon Ratcliffe. Gresford then went all out for the equaliser that their play had certainly deserved. Another great through ball by Phil Jones should have put them level but again a great chance went begging as Jon Ratcliffe failed to convert at the far post
