Gresford started the brighter of the two sides and created the first chance, Jon Taylor heading on a long ball and Craig Williams saw the Ryan Robert in the home goal block his resulting shot. Phil Jones then forced Roberts into another save as Gresford took the game to Halkyn. Nathan Jones was the first Halkyn player to have a shot but Mike Price saved comfortably.

Gresford continued to take the game to Halkyn with Jon Taylor prominent in most of their attacks. Craig Williams excellent hold up play created two chances for Shaun Williams that he fired narrowly over the crossbar. Williams then saw an effort go over the bar after Phil Jones had created the chance with a good run and cross. On the stroke of half time Gresford were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Halkyn penalty area .Halkyn blocked the kick and Nathan Jones broke from his own half to beat two Gresford defenders before firing home

Halkyn started the second half on the attack and good defensive play by Richie Carr prevented a good scoring chance. Halkyn then created and scored a second that was rightly ruled out for off side. Jon Taylor then made a good run into the Halkyn box and his goal bound shot appeared to hit a Halkyn hand but the referee turned down their penalty appeal. Taylor's good right wing play then created a couple of half chances for Gresford.

Gresford pushed forward looking for an equaliser without created any clear cut chances. There best chance came from substitutes Paul Jones free kick but Alan Williams volleyed the chance over the bar. Both sides were reduced to ten men on eighty minutes as Halkyn's Barry Calder and Gresford's Matt Davies were dismissed after thc referee saw a skirmish in the Gresford half.
