MATCH REPORT
Gresford started brightly and took the lead on eight minutes, Jon Taylor beating the offside trap to latch onto a Mike Gronnow pass and rifle home with a great shot into the top corner. A long ball out of the Holywell half then caused panic in the Gresford defence and Gareth Rowland had to tip the ball over the bar. Rowland then played a long ball to Jon Taylor but his shot went straight at Stuart Bidwell in the Holywell goal. Kevin Todd should have added a second for Gresford but he headed a Wyn Jones freekick well wide. Holywell though thery had grabbed an equaliser when Lee Jones headed on a freekick but the assistants flag ruled out the goal. Another Rowland long ball almost created a chance for Craig Williams but he was blocked as he went for goal.

HALF TIME GRESFORD ATHLETIC 1 HOLYHEAD HOTSPURS 0

Holywell took the game to Gresford at the start of the second half and Julian Pepper saw a goal disallowed for an obvious foul on Rowland in the home goal. Holywell equalised on fifty two minutes after Rowland made a good block from Pepper only for the ball to bounce off Simon Holloway's shin and into the net. A Craig Williams run then created a haf chance for Jon Taylot but his first touch let him down on this occasion. Holyhead went ahead on seventy minutes, a corner from the left was headed on to Peeper whose shot was blocked by Rowland but the ball fell nicely for Lee Jones to volley home. Holywell were now the better side and a shot by Peeper came back off the post as they created chances. Rob Jones was then injured after an atrocious tackle that should have earned the culprit much more than the yellow card he received. Substitute Kevin Hope and Craig Williams created a shooting chance for Wyn Jones but his effort was well wide. With time running out substitute Owen Roberts fed Craig Williams and he was fouled in the penalty area. Jon Taylor converting the shot kick to earn Gresford a draw. At the end of the match Holywell's John Hasildine was sent off for apparently punching a Gresford player, this incident incited a Holywell committee member to come onto the pitch and attacked a Gresford players. Scenes that have no place in football
