Gresford traveled for the local derby at Lex X1 without the injured Alan Williams, Suspended Shaun Williams and unavailable Dave Lloyd. Simon Holloway returned to the starting eleven and Matt Williams came in at right back

For a local derby the game took a while to get going and took ten minutes for the first effort on goal, Danny Purdie heading over from a Phil Jones cross. Purdie and Simon Holloway then combined but Holloway's shot was too weak to trouble Durkin in the home goal. Carl Andrews was the next to try his luck but his twenty yarder was well off target. Gresford took the lead on twenty two minutes. Danny Purdie crossing from the left and the ever alert Craig Williams netting at the near post.

Lex were level within five minutes, Mark Williams cutting in from the left and crossing to the far post for Carl Evans to convert. Back came Gresford to force a corner that was only cleared to the edge of the penalty area. Simon Holloway picking up the lose ball and chipping a superb goal into the top corner. Gresford were now causing Lex a lot of problems and a Matt Williams, Jon Ratcliffe and Carl Andrews passing move created a half chance for Craig Williams that he just failed to connect with. On forty four minutes Gresford went three one up, a Wyn Jones freekick found the head of Danny Purdie who powered home his header. Lex almost pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time forcing Gareth Rowland into a great save from a close range header.

Lex took the game to Gresford at the start of the second half and Rowland had to be alert to smother a ball into the six yard box. Gresford then had a strong penalty appeal turned down as Craig Williams appeared to be held. Lex were using the long ball to try and open up the Gresford defence but Gresford's back four dealt with everything thrown at them. It was Gresford who nearly added to their tally forcing Durkin in the home goal to goal full length to turn a Jon Ratcliffe shot round the post.

Rowland in the Gresford goal then had to quickly come off his line to smother at the second attempt. A Phil Jones run then nearly created a fourth for Gresford. With time running out and Gresford defending superbly Lex tried their luck from twenty yards only to see Rowland pull off a brilliant save to tip the ball onto the bar and over as it looked like it was going in the top corner.
