Match Report
gresford in search of their second home league win of the season were unchanged for the local derby against Lex X1. The early exchanges were even with goal scoring chances hard to come by in the first ten minutes. On twelve minutes Gresford took the lead. A long ball up field by Gareth Rowland was headed ion by Craig Williams and the same player beat Scott Evans in the Lex X1 goal to head home. Phil Jones almost doubled Gresford's lead when his in swinging corner pit the Lex post. Lex then created a chance but Chris Newman made an excellent tackle to thwart the danger. Warren Duckett then tried his luck from twenty five yards and forced Rowland in the home goal to tip over the bar. Gresford increased their lead on thirty five minutes from another long Rowland kick, this time Craig Williams and Jon Taylor exchanged passes before the later fired over the keeper into the net. Lex reduced the deficit on forty three minutes when a through ball bounced off Rowland as he scrambled to retrieve the ball and Warren Duckett scored from the rebound.
Lex started
the second half brightly but failed to penetrate a resilient Gresford rear guard. The closed they came was when Robbie Nevitt cut in from the right and his a shot that Rowland tipped over the bar at full stretch. Gresford then created a good chance when Craig Williams and Jon Taylor combined, Taylor squared for Jon Ratcliffe who shot was blocked for a corner. Ratcliffe almost scoring from the resulting corner but his header was cleared off the line. Lex were reduced to long ball tactics that the excellent Gresford rearguard with Wyn Jones outstanding dealt comfortably with. Craig Williams then almost created a deserved third for Gresford when he forced Evans in the Lex goal to clear to the feet of substitute Danny Purdie but his effort was well off target
