The game started with Llandudno looking the more confident team and the caused a few eagerly problems for the Gresford defence. A quick Hugh Jones free kick presented Gresford with an early chance but Ian Matthias's low cross was blocked. Phil Jones then cut in from the right a fired a twenty yarder just over the bar. Grant Montgomery then had a chance for Llandudno but he headed over the bar. Gresford's defence then had to be alert as Llandudno forced them into conceding a corner

Kevin Hope was the next to try his luck but his twenty five yard free kick went straight to Alan Rooney in the Llandudno goal. A poor Hugh Jones clearance then presented Llandudno with a chance that was cleared. In an end to end game Ian Matthias was next to have an attempt on goal which was saved. A good Llandudno move down the right then created a good chance that Mike Price in the home goal pushed for a corner

Gresford started the second half on the attack with Phil Jones and Ian Matthias seeing chances and crosses blocked. Jones then made a great run into the penalty area only to see his attempted cross blocked for a corner. The same player then forced the Llandudno keeper to push over the bar a cross/shot. A High Jones free kick was then headed over the bar by Kevin Todd as Gresford looked for the important opening goal. But it was Llandudno who went ahead after a quick free kick resulted in a low cross from the right that player manager dummied and Lloyd Roberts fired home from fifteen yards

Five minutes Llandudno nearly made it two nil when a good low cross from the right evaded everybody. Gresford then almost equalised when Craig Williams headed on a Danny Purdie cross only to see Wyn Jones head straight at the keeper . Gresford then forced a series of corners that Rooney in the Llandudno goal did well to punch away. He was beaten by an Alan Williams header from a Shaun Williams corner but the ball hit the top of the bar. Llandudno then lost Darren Jones to what appeared to be a serious injury after fifty fifty tackle. Gresford then saw what appeared to be the equaliser from Ian Matthias cancelled out by a linesman's flag. In added time Llandudno clinched the points when substitute Mike Lundshum fired home
