Ben Heald was called into action to tip a long bouncing ball over the bar as early as the tenth minute. From the resulting corner Alan Williams headed narrowly over the Llanfair crossbar. Gresford then created a couple of chances but the final ball let them down. Phil Jones tried his luck from twenty yards but his shot went straight at Heald. Llanfair then made a good break down the left that resulted in Billy Evans getting caught offside. Aled Griffiths then got on the end of a corner but saw his effort go over the Gresford bar. A long punt up field by Gresford goalkeeper Gareth Rowland produced a shooting chance for Jon Taylor that was wasted. In a first half of wasted chances Phil Jones hit a thirty yarder over the bar before Llanfair's Billy Evans created a chance for Aled Griffith that was headed over the bar. Gresford then though they had scored but the officials ruled the ball had not gone over the line. Gareth Rowland then saved a Chris Williams shot at his near post.

Within two minutes of the restart Llanfair took the lead when two Gresford defenders at the near post failed to clear and the ball hit Rowland for an own goal. With minutes Gresford had a great chance to equalise but Jon Ratcliffe shot wide after good work by Craig Williams and Danny Purdie. Purdie then saw his headed from a Phil Jones corner tipped over the bar as Gresford pushed for an equaliser. Jon Taylor also headed wide when well placed. Llanfair then scored twice in as many minutes after poor defending by the Gresford defence. Neil Hughes and Billy Evans being the benefactors. Gresford created and wasted a few good chances and Ben Heald in the Llanfair goal made a great double save from Mark Evans and Craig Williams. Evans also forced the keeper into a great low save in the final minute.
