Llangollen started the brighter of the two sides and in an early attack Ben Lloyd hit the outside of the post. The same player then forced Gareth Rowland into his first save with a shot that was tipped over the bar. Gresford gradually got into the game and Kevin Todd headed a Wyn Jones corner wide in there first threat on goal

A free kick from Phil Jones then hit the post as Gresford looked for the opening goal, this came on forty minutes after Rob Edwards upended Craig Williams as he looked certain to score. Phil Jones converting the spot kick to give Gresford a half time advantage

Llangollen started the second half on the attack and had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down as Rob Jones cleared a corner off the line. Jon Taylor then had a great chance to put Gresford two up but the home keeper saved with his feet. A Taylor cross then produced the second goal for Gresford as Danny Purdie converted with a splendid overhead kick.

Llangollen with nothing to loose threw caution to the wind as they looked to reduce the deficit. They did score on sixty minutes but the goal was disallowed for off side. Five minutes later they did score with a screamer of a free kick from Ian Grindley that flew into the top corner. Llan then forced a couple of corners one of which was only half cleared resulting in a shot that Rowland turned over the bar. A lack lustre performance by Gresford, but its results that count in the cup
