Gresford after three successive defeats introduced Matt Williams, Darren Jones and Paul Jones to the starting line up with Jon Ratcliffe, Alan Williams and Ian Matthias on the bench

Gresford got off to the worst possible start conceding a free kick on the left flank that Lee Phelan placed onto a unmarked Nick Hughes head who headed home from eight yards. Gresford then won a free kick that they tried to take quickly but an over fussy referee pulled the game back and booked Nick Hughes of Queens Park.

 


 

MOM MIKE PRICE

 

The game became very scrappy with neither side putting more than two passes together. The nearest the home side came to equalising was when Craig Williams dispossessed a Queens Park defender and chipped the keeper but his hard earned effort was well off target. On the stroke of half time Queens Park should have gone two up but Mike price in the home goal made a great block with his feet.

The second half started with the referee showing the red card for trivial offences and this prevented the game getting into any sort of rhythm. Any chances that were created went to Queens Park and Price had to be at his best to keep them from adding to their total, when Price was finally beaten the goalpost came to Gresford's rescue. With twenty minutes remaining Gresford pushed men forward looking for the equaliser and should have been punished several times in counter attacks by

Queens Park but Mike Price prevented them from scoring on several times as he came on top in at least four one to one situations. With time running out and the game being played in near darkness Gresford were awarded a penalty when Craig Williams was brought down as he advanced on goal. Ian Matthias slotting home for his first goal for the club. Two minutes later a frustrated Queens Park had two player red carded by a referee who managed to book eight players and send off two in a game without any bad tackles of note
