Queens Park were first to have a chance after Rob Jones gave the ball away cheaply but Gareth Rowland in the Gresford goal went full length to turn the ball over the bar. On twelve minutes Gresford took the lead. A Phil Jones, Wyn Jones move created a chance for Danny Purdie at the far post and his half hit shot found the back of the net.

Queens Park drew level from the penalty spot, Wayne Roberts converting after Shaun Williams had upended Gareth Lloyd. Ten minutes later Kevin Todd converted a Craig Williams pass to put Gresford ahead.

Gresford should have sealed the game within the first ten minutes of the second half but wasted four great chances. Queens Park then forced Rowland into a double save before they drew level with a Gareth Lloyd goal. Rob Jones then made a great run down the right but his excellent cross came to nothing. Queens Park almost went ahead after poor Gresford defending but failed to convert.

The decisive goal came when Craig Williams collected a long ball down the left, cut in and hit the bar from twenty yards, Danny Purdie scoring with a well placed shot from the rebound. Queens Park then created a few half chances notably forcing Rowland to some off his line smartly to save
