Gresford traveled to Rhos in the NEWFA Challenge cup with a full strength squad.
It took five minutes for the Cymru Alliance team to break the deadlock, Phil Jones cutting in from the right and hitting a cross shot that went in off the far post.

A Craig Williams, Danny Purdie combination almost created a second for Gresford but Purdie fired wide when well placed. Rhos drew level on forty minutes when a misplaced Mike Price pass found Darren Greenway who side footed home from the edge of the penalty area. The Williams, Purdie combination created a chance for Purdie that Dave Blower was forced to save.

Within five minutes of the second half Eryl Roberts hit the Gresford bar as Rhos with the wind behind them took the game to Gresford. Mike Price in the Athletic goal then made a good double save to keep his side on level terms. With twenty minutes to go Gresford pushed forward looking for a winning goal and this almost came from a Craig Williams run and shot that hit the Rhos post. With five minute remaining and extra time looming a long ball out of the Rhos defence caught out a square Gresford defence allowing Eryl Roberts to score with a great chip shot. Roberts then created a chance for Greenway that he fired wide. |
