Simon Jones spurned a great chance to put Ruthin into an early lead in an evenly matched first half. Gresford struck first blood though when Phil Jones was tripped 7 minutes prior to the break and Ian Mathias fired the resulting penalty hard and low to Jeremy Porters left hand. Johnny Taylor as he so often does was irritating the Ruthin rearguard and he won several free-kicks which were all dealt with.

Straight after the restart Osian Jones was twice thwarted by Gareth Rowland but he had no answer Scott Jamieson's thunderous drive from 35 yards. Wyn and Sean dominated the midfield and were always quick to support the front runners and they both had chances around the hour mark to restore the lead. |

The pitch was heavy and Sam replaced the hardworking Jonny boy with Lloydy and soon after Phil was caught by several late tackles and he limped off to be replaced by Owen. In a late sortie, Gresford snatched a late winner when Sean Williams fired home from close after some clever work by Wyn Jones.
