Gresford recalled Alan Williams to the starting line eleven, Gareth Pugh-Jones replaced Danny Purdie and Jon Taylor and Wyn Jones joined Purdie on the subs bench

Ruthin could have been ahead as early as the second minute when a free kick was headed just wide. A minute later they forced Mike Price in the home goal to palm away a goal bound shot. Jon Ratcliffe then combined with Gareth Pugh-Jones to crate Gresford's first attack but the later's cross was over the bar. A Phil Jones cross was just too high for Mat Williams who's header was well off target. A good move involving Mike Gronnow, Phil Jones and Gareth Pugh-Jones crated a half chance that came to nothing

Ruthin then crated a chance that hit the Gresford bar and were caught off side as they took the game to the home side. Phil Jones created a headed chance for Alan Williams that almost crept in at the far post. Ruthin then hit the Gresford post after a right wing free kick. Five minutes later the cross bar prevented Ruthin going ahead as a long throw was headed on and Andrew Roberts beat the Gresford defence to the second ball. Craig Williams chased down a lost cause to create a chance for Jon Ratcliffe that was wasted.

Six minutes into the second half Ruthin;s Andrew Roberts hit a hopefully shot from thirty five yards that ended up in the back of the net with Price appearing to slip as he tried to save. A minute later Ruthin were two up, a mix-up in the Gresford defence resulting in Chris Newman heading over Price for an own goal. a Matt Davies header from a Shaun Williams free kick almost reduced the deficit. With ten minutes remaining a long ball out of the Ruthin defence resulted in Andrew Roberts scoring his second. Phil Jones then scored a penalty for Gresford after Craig Williams had been impeded
