Bala got off to the better start but the game was very even for the first fifteen minutes with both sides creating chances. Mike Price in the Gresford goal was called to make the first save of the match when he blocked a Bala attempt with his feet. Bala then created the first good chance of the half but Craig Lawton at the far post headed well wide. Gresford then created two chances that almost produced the first goal

The first from a Phil Jones corner saw Alan Williams head narrowly over, then a phil Jones, Craig Williams interchange saw Wyn Jones try his luck from twenty yards, his effort looking a likely goal but it just skimmed the bar. Slacking passing outside the Gresford penalty are gifted Bala the first goal as Neil Fisher picked up a wayward pass and with Gresford;s defence backing off fired into the bottom corner on forty minutes.

Gresford were a little unfortunate to be behind at the break but were lucky not to concede again as the second half got under way. Mike Gronnow clearing at the far post as Iwan Roberts looked likely to add a second, Mike Price then lost the ball to Neil Fisher but Kevin Todd was on hand to clear the danger. Gresford then had a great chance to equalise when Alan Williams slipped a quick free kick to Phil Jones but his shot was well off target.

on fifty eight minutes Ewan Roberts made it two nil to Bala when he converted a far post header after more poor defending by the Gresford rearguard. A good move involving Mike Gronnow and Matt Cooper then created a chance for Ian Matthias but his header was weak and off target. Craig Lawton then made it three on for Bala seventy five minutes when Gresford again gave the ball away outside their penalty area and with three minutes remaining a quick free kick saw a chance created for Llion Roberts that he bundled home at the far post
