Gresford started brightly and took the game to Bodedern. They were rewarded for their efforts on ten minutes when Jon Ratcliffe found space at the far post to head home a phil Jones free kick. Gresford continued to control the game for the remainder of the first half but failed to take any of numerous chances created

Mike Price

The second half started as the first had finished with Gresford in command but failing capitalise on chances created. A bad injury to goalkeeper Mike Price held the game up for ten minutes and Mike Gronnow had to take over in goal. Craig Williams almost added a second for Gresford but took to long and was crowded out by the bodedern rear guard.

With ten minutes to go Gresford scored the second goal their display deserved and again it was man of the match Phil Jones who was the provider, his freekick finding Alan Williams who lobbed the ball to the far post for substitute Ian Matthias to head home. Bodedern pulled a goal back in the eighty fifth minutes when Emyr Roberts scored the third headed goal of the match.

Gresford then had a nervous end to the game as Bodedern looked for the goal to take the game into extra time but the Gresford defence held firm and with the help of stand in keeper Mike Gronnow moved into the second round and a home tie with Welsh Premier side Portmadog
