Gresford after their fine win at Bodedern started brightly and took the game to league leaders Buckley Town. Phil Jones having the first shot at goal after Alan Williams had been fouled on the edge of the Buckley penalty area. Buckley then had two corners in succession but they came to nothing. Buckley were then almost gifted the opening goal as Chris Newman gave he ball away cheaply. Mike Price coming to Gresford rescue with a fine blocking save. Buckley then had a strong penalty appeal turned down by referee Mike Jones

Gresford with Craig Williams chasing every lost ball were creating some half chances but it was Buckley who had the best chance but Price again blocked a goal bound effort with his feet. Buckley then had a big let off as Craig Williams won the race for a loose back pass and fired past Turner in the home goal only to see the ball come back off the post and straight to the keeper

Buckley came out stronger for the second half but the Gresford rearguard well marshaled by man of the match Kevin Todd held them at bay. It was Gresford who created the best chance of the second period, Jon Ratcliffe and Kevin Todd combining down the right only for the later's cross to be headed over his own bar for a corner by Craig Goodwin. Todd then saw a far post header from a Shaun Williams freekick sail over the bar. Substitute Darren Jones then prevented Buckley from creating another chance with an excellent tackle on the edge of the penalty area.

Buckley then created a chance down the right flank for Kevin Breeze but his cross shot came back off the far post. Alan Williams then crated a half chance for Gresford but Buckley blocked Shaun Williams's cross. Alan Williams then send a great through ball to Craig Williams who was impeded as he raced in to the penalty area but Gresford's appeal for a penalty was turned down. Gresford thought they had secured a late winner when substitute Ian Matthias scrambled home a Craig Williams cross at the far post but he was adjudged to be offside. |
