Buckley were first to show and Rene Pinard forced Gareth Rowland in the home goal into his first save of the match after eight minutes. Hugh Jones then had the home sides first shot but his effort was well over the bar. A good move down the left saw a good Kevin Hope low cross blocked by the Buckley defence. Lee Dagher then tried an overhead kick that Rowland smothered with ease.

A skirmish in the Buckley have saw the referee
produce the yellow card to Buckley's Lee Dagher, the same player then shot wide after a Buckley attack. Danny Purdie then picked up a loose ball and tried a curler but he was also well off target. The best effort of the half came from Purdie who picked up a
Wyn Jones cross and a hammered the ball off the underside of the cross bar.

Gresford started the second half by taking the game to Buckley and almost took the lead when a Danny Purdie through ball found Shaun Williams, Paul Turner in the Buckley goal making a good save from Williams's shot. Craig Williams then created a chance for himself but Turner smothered his goal bound shot

The fist goal was going to be vital in a game that swung from end to end. Phil Jones blazed a free kick over the bar and Graham Randles fired a Buckley chance wide as both sides created half chances. The vital goal came with fifteen minutes to go. A long free kick from Buckley being missed by the Gresford defence and Kevin Breeze scored the only goal of a game that Gresford should have got something from
