Camarthen Town visited Clappers Lane for the first time and could have taken an early lead but for a fine save from home keeper Gareth Rowland. Gresford produced their first chance on ten minutes when Jon Ratcliffe and Simon Holloway combined only to see the later's cross blocked. Richard Carter and Richard Kennedy then combined for Camarthen but Rowland again saved from ten yards. Gresford then almost broke the deadlock when a Phil Jones corner found Kevin Todd at the far post but his header went over the bar. Alan Williams then saw his drive go wide as Gresford took the game to Camarthen. Gresford went in front on twenty eight minutes when Craig Williams squared for Simon Holloway to pick his spot from just inside the penalty area. Camarthen were level within two minutes when a disputed free kick was dispatched into the Gresford area by Gary Lloyd and Martyn Giles headed home at the far post. Gresford then appealed in vain for a penalty as Craig Williams appeared to be up ended by a Camarthen defender. Carmarthen's Mark Doods then tried his luck from thirty yards but his effort failed to test Rowland in the home goal. Rowland had to be at his best on half time to smother another Camarthen attack.

HALF TIME: GRESFORD ATHLETIC 1 CAMARTHEN TOWN 1

Gresford started the second half brightly and after a fine Phil Jones run Craig Williams just headed over the bar. Camarthen then forced Rowland into another save as he tipped a Craig Lima header onto the post. Another Lloyd free kick then saw Camarthen captain Rhodri Jones head downwards and onto the top of the bar. Gresford then saw Wyn Jones cross blocked as they went looking for a second goal. Dave Lloyd then broke down the left but his excellent cross was well held by the Camarthen keeper.

FULL TIME: GRESFORD ATHLETIC 2 CAMARTHEN TOWN 2

Extra time started with both teams looking to break the deadlock and it was Camarthen who struck in the one hundredth minute when Rhys Griffiths scored after a goalmoth scramble with Gresford appealing for a foul. Gresford scored a deserved equalizer when Phil Jones created a chance for Jon Ratcliffe and he fired home from fifteen yards.

HALF TIME EXTRA TIME: GRESFORD ATHLETIC 2 CAMARTHEN TOWN 2

With both teams tiring chances became rare bit from a Wyn Jones cross Richard Carter sliced the ball only to see Tony Pennock bring off a fine save to give Gresford a corner. Phil Jones took the corner and Mike Gronnow almost scored with a far post header. In the last minute of extra time Rhys Griffiths had the chance to seal it for Camarthen but his effort was well over the bar.
