Gresford with the slope in their favour took the game to Cemaes Bay from the off and were rewarded after four minutes when Danny Purdie played a clever through ball to Simon Holloway who beat the advancing keeper to give Gresford an early lead. Alan Williams then saw a goalbound shot headed off the line as Gresford created numerous early chances. In a scrappy first half Gresford were guilty of giving the ball away and there general play was not up to the high quality they have shown in previous matches. Cemaes who had hardly caused Gresford any problems equalised in the thity fifth minute with a close range header. Gresford continued to take the game to Cemaes but the home keeper was in fine form and dealt with the many crosses and shots that Gresford put in. A scrappy first half was drawing to a close when Alan Williams put Danny Purdie clear down the right and his low cross was converted by Phil Jones to give Gresford a half time lead.

HALF TIME: CEMAES BAY 1 GRESFORD ATHLETIC 2

After a few home truths at half time Gresford came out in determined mood and took the game to Cemaes with some fine attacking football and after numerous chances finally increased their lead in the fifty fifth minute when Alan Williams and Carl Andrews created a chance for Phil Jones to score his second of the game. It was now all Gresford and only fine goal keeping from the Cemaes Bay goalkeeper prevented a cricket score, he hade excellent saves from Jon Ratcliffe, Danny Purdie and Simon Holloway before Danny Purdie scored Gresford's fourth after a Jopn Ratcliffe though ball put him clean through, the home keeper saving his initial shot before he netted the rebound. Gresford's play then became sloppy as they pushed men forward and lost their shape. The final goal of the game came with two minutes remaining and was created by Craig Williams and Jon Ratcliffe, Phil Jones header the later's cross in from close range to complete his hat trick
