Gresford replaced the unavailable Darren Jones with Mike Gronnow, Craig Williams replacing Dave Lloyd on the bench

Both teams were looking to start the season with two wins on the trot and the game started with neither side able to take control.

Chances were few and far between with defences on top for the first thirty minutes . A Wyn Jones free kick gave Gresford a half chance but Guilsfield man of the match Darren Leonard head the ball clear as he did on numerous occasions during the game. A Phil Jones free kick then caused panic in the Guilsfield penalty are which resulted in two successive corners which came to nothing.

Mike Price in the home goal then created a chance for Chris Broadhust but his lob over the keeper also went over the bar. On Forty minutes Guilsfield were reduced to ten men when Craig Edwards was sent off for what the referee considerded a dangerous, Chris Newman was unable to continue after the incident.

Gresford created the best chance of the match in the fiftieth minute Phil Jones and Chris Broadhurst combining to create the opening for Craig Williams that he volleyed against the bar .Guilsfield then created their best chance from a corner but Chris Smout failed to find the net with a far post header. Guilsfield then forced Mike Price in the home goal to his first save of the night as he pushed a header over the bar

On Sixty minutes Guisfield took the lead, a half cleared corner falling to captain Greame McGill who dispatched a twenty yard shot into the top corner. Gresford played straight into Guilsfield hands they sought for an equaliser, to many long high balls into the area easily being dealt with by Darren Leonard. Guilsfield increased their lead on seventy five minutes. Shaun Butler scoring a fine individual goal

Gresford pushed their best player on the night Kevin Todd in to the forward line but failed to create against a stubborn Guilsfield defence
