Gresford started with the same line up for the fourth consecutive game and could have taken an early lead in the first minute but Craig Williams saw his shot saved by the Holywell keeper. Shuan Williams then fed Simon Holloway down the right but his cross was cleared. Holywell were seeing a lot of the ball without troubling the home defence. In the twenty fifth minute Simon Holloway had a great chance to out Gresford ahead but he allowed the Holywell defence to recover and clear the ball after being put clear. The game was fairly even at this point with Holywell just edging possession. Holywell then brought the best out of home keeper Gareth Rowland from a free kick that he had to smother at the far post. Kevin Todd then had to make a great tackle to prevent a Holywell forward scoring as he broke free. Then from a Gresford corner in the final minute of the first half a long punt up field by the Holywell keeper saw them take the lead as Lee Acott chipped the ball over the advancing Rowland.

HALF TIME: GRESFORD ATHLETIC 0 HOLYWELL TOWN 1

Holywell started the second half the better of the two teams and Gareth Rowland had to produce a good save to tip the ball over the bar to prevent then going two up. In the sixtieth minute Holywell were reduced to ten men when one of their defenders was shown a second yellow card. Holloway then had a great chance to put Gresford level but he completely missed a great cross from Jon Ratcliffe. Holywell then broke and went two up in controversial manner, the assistant referee raising his flag for offside only to be over ruled by the referee who adjudged a Gresford defender to have played the ball to the feet of a Holywell forward. A minute later substitute Wyn Jones pulled a goal back for Gresford with a shot from a very acute angle. Gresford now went all out for an equalizer and this came after eighty five minutes when Wyn Jones played Craig Williams into the penalty are and he was fouled to give Gresford a penalty.
