Gresford made one change to the starting line up with Dave Lloyd replacing the unavialable Chris Newman. Paul Jones and Darren Jones joining Richard Bean on the substitutes bench .

Gresford could and should have scored two goals in the opening ten minutes. Jon Ratcliffe created the first chance with a run down the right flank, his cross found Phil Jones at the far post and he should have done better with this excellent chance. The second chance came after a Simon Holloway shot was blocked, the ball rebounding to Danny Purdie who also failed to hit the target when a goal looked certain.
It was Llandyrnog who broke the deadlock on twenty six minutes a long ball out of defence splitting the Gresford rearguard and allowing a cross from the right to be easily converted. It was two nil two minute later as Gresford allowed a Llandyrnog player to run fifty yards with the ball before passing to a team mate who fired home. The game was then a midfield battle until the forty first minute when Kevin Todd failed to clear a through ball allowing a Llandyrnog forward time and space to pick his spot.

Gresford had early second half chances to get back into the game with Jon Ratcliffe heading over the bar when well placed and then Alan Williams failing to fine the net with another good chance. Gresford were now enjoying most of the possession and almost reduced the deficit when a twenty five yard drive from Jon Ratcliffe skimmed the post. Gresford defence who had been in excellent form of late then almost allowed Llan to score a fourth after a mix up between Phil Jones and Mike Gronnow but on this occasion Gareth Rowland was able to make a good block.
Alan (Sammy) Jones the Gresford manager then introduced his three substitutes to try and get back into the game. They did finally score a deserved goal in the eighty sixth minute when leading scorer Phil Jones was on hand to convert after an excellent run and cross by Darren Jones. It turned out to be two little to late as Gresford returned home with out any points after a performance that could have seen them get something out of the game.
