Gresford Athletic Vs. Llangefni Town
(Sponsor Graham Pae)
Saturday 17th. November
Gresford made one change for the visit of league leaders Llangefni Town, Simon Holloway returning to replace the suspended Carl Andrews.
Llangefni started brightly and a low cross from the right in the first minute evaded everyone. The game was then to end with both sides creating half chances. Llangefni almost took the lead on twenty minutes when the lively Jason Sadler forced Gareth Rowland in the home goal to go full length to palm his shot away, the ball was then crossed from the right but a Llangefni header went straight at Rowland. It was then Gresford turn to almost score when Phil Jones crossed from the left and Simon Holloway headed goal wards only to see Harvey in the Llangefni goal turn the ball over the bar. Wyn Jones then swung over a corner that Mike Gronnow headed on and Craig Williams volleyed against the bar. Gresford then had a penalty appeal turned down as a Llangefni the ball hit a defender hands. In an exciting and evenly matched game it was then Llan's turn to see a good attack broken up by a perfect Kevin Todd block tackle. Back came Gresford and a Wyn Jones twenty yarder was fumbled by the Llan keeper who recovered well to beat the on rushing Craig Williams to the ball. Shaun Williams then broke up a Llangefni raid and freed Phil Jones whose cross failed to find a Gresford attacker. With half time approaching it was Llangefni who opened the scoring, a right wing cross was headed into the top corner.

HALF TIME: GRESFORD ATHLETIC 0 LLANGEFNI TOWN 1
Gresford started the second half well on top and a chip from Simon Holloway just cleared the bar. Gresford thought they should have a head a penalty when a Llangefni defender hand balled in the area but the referee was not convinced and gave nothing. A]Then a great run and cross from Wyn Jones evaded everyone as an equaliser looked on the cards. Another flowing move from Gresford resulted in a Simon Holloway shot being blocked on the line as Gresford dominated the open twenty minutes of the second half. A great run down the left by man of the match Phil Jones caused havoc in the Llangefni defence but luck seemed to be against Gresford as chance after chance went begging.
Then in a crazy five minute spell Gresford gifted Llangefni two goals, firstly a Mike Gronnow cross field pass was intercepted and Austin passed to Sadler who picked his spot well, then a rare mis-handle by Rowland in the home goal was forced home to give Llangefni an unlikely three goal advantage. This stunned Gresford who had been the better of two very good teams up to this point. Gresford still took the game to the away team but on a day when they created a hat full of chances they could not find the back of the net. Llangefni scored two more late goals to give the game an unjust and unlikely score line.
Gresford will play a lot worse than this and win as Llangefni went home knowing what an unjust result it was.
