Gresford put Saturday's poor performance behind them as they attacked from the off. Jon Ratcliffe almost giving them a first minute lead with a header from a Phil Jones cross. The first goal did not take long to come as Phil Jones swung over a fifth minute freekick which Ratcliffe forced home at the far post. Simon Holloway was giving the Mold rear guard all sorts of problems and it was he who scored the second Gresford goal after fourteen minutes when he chipped the advancing Mold keeper after a good through ball from the lively Phil Jones. Mold then had a chance to pull a goal back but the effort was high and wide. Gresford continued to play open attacking football and should have added to their tally on numerous occasions. Mold were back in the game on forty minutes after a rare mistake by Mike Gronnow.
HALF TIME: MOLD ALEX 1 GRESFORD ATHLETIC 2
Gresford started the second half on top but it was Mold who had the best chance, a good free kick from the right reaching an unmarked Mold player at the far post but he headed wide. Gresford then created more good chances with Danny Purdie, Phil Jones and Simon Holloway all going close. Carl Andrews was nearest to a goal with a twenty yarder that just skimmed the bar. Another good move involving Jones, Holloway and Ratcliffe forced a corner for Gresford on sixty four minutes, from the resulting kick Alam Williams forcing Phil Jones's insinger to restore Gresford's two goal advantage. Mold immediately did likewise from a corner, one of their defending heading home at the far post when unmarked. Alan Williams was next to have a strike at the Mold goal, his twenty yarder not far off the target. On seventy minutes Gresford added a fourth after a Mold back pass was intercepted by Holloway who although fouled still managed to round the home keeper and score. Gresford then had a strong penalty appeal turned down as Phil Jones dribbled his way into the Mold penalty area. The referee allowing Gresford to have the advantage instead od awarding the penalty. Gresford were now well in control with Mold only having the isolated attack. Danny Purdie almost made in five with a trenendus thirty five yard drive that bounced back off the cross bar in the dieing minutes.
