Gresford were forced into changes as they visited Mynydd Isa in the NEWFA challenge cup. Chris Newman (injured), Kevin Todd (holiday) and Alan Williams (wedding) all unavailable. Wyn Jones, Richard Bean and Matt Williams all coming into the starting eleven. With Dave Lloyd, Richard Carr and Owen Roberts on the substitutes bench

On a pitch that would have been deemed unplayable by many both teams struggled to try and play anything relating to good football. Gresford took the lead when Simon Holloway was fouled thirty yards from goal. Wyn Jones hammering the resulting free kick home. Mynydd Isa equalised with a wind assisted freekick that on a better day would have been easily cleared by the Gresford defence.

HALF TIME: Mynydd Isa 1 Gresford Athletic 1

With the wind and rain seeming to get worse during the second half Gresford managed to take the lead with a Danny Purdie free kick only for Mynydd Isa to again equalise from another free kick. Gresford had the better chances with Wyn Jones and Jon Ratcliffe both creating excellent chances that were not converted.

Extra time started with the pitch getting worse and the weather atrocious. Gresford had a great chance to take the lead when Simon Holloway was put in the clear with just the home keeper to beat, but the referee stopped play when he saw another ball on the field of play. It was Mynydd Isa who grabbed the winner, another free kick causing a scramble in the Gresford penalty area which was converted.
