MATCH REPORT
Gresford Athletic were able to retain the Division One League Cup by beating league champions Castell Alun Colts 1-0 at the ground of Llay Welfare. Team preparations were affected by the late withdrawal of Richie Carr who had been diagnosed as having food poisening.  On the back of some awful results,  Gresford took the game to their opponents from the off with Gareth Pugh Jones and Matt Davies having two good early chances blocked. Matt Davies broke the deadlock on 38 minutes after beating two defenders to fire home from 5 yards. Chris Broadhurst went close and then had a goal disallowed as Gresford finished the first half in front. The Colts did make a real scrap of things after the break though and pushed Gresford back into their own half for large spells but Gresford were awarded a 74 th minute penalty which should have killed off the game but Grahame Sutcliffe's spot-kick was denied by the upright. The Colts had Neil Ellis dismissed in the 80 th minute which dimmed any chance of a comeback so Gresford had something to savour from the season after fading badly of late
