NAZAM DRUID WELSH NATIONAL DIVISION ONE
GLYN CEIRIOG 1-5 GRESFORD ATHLETIC RESERVES

Away to Glyn Ceiriog not the best of venues but with a very strong squad, including, Danny Purdie shouldn't prove difficult.

We started quickly and from a powerful run down the right flank by Robbie Jones the ball was slammed home by Danny Purdie from the resulting cross, after just 2 minutes, 1 – 0 Gresford. This was the perfect start and we continued to threaten with good chances being created almost at will, eventually the pressure paid off forcing a corner down our left side. Owen glided the ball over the Glyn defence and Chal rose like a salmon to head home after 20 minutes.

Despite this promising start we lacked concentration at the back (Jack Daniel's effect) with the long ball was causing problems and on the half-hour mark this proved to be our undoing. We failed to deal with a long hoof up-field and their centre forward nipped in to slot the ball passed the advancing Craig Trow, 2 – 1 against the run of play. The encouraging thing was that this didn't effect our play and within 5 minutes we restored the 2 goal cushion when Broady thumped home a great header (Sheringham style) from another corner.

Half Time Glyn Ceiriog 1 - Gresford Athletic 3

The 2 nd period started much the same and with no disrespect to the home side they were being totally out classed and following some free flowing passing the ball was slid through to Broady to clip the ball over the Glyn keeper, 4 – 1. This allowed Ady to make the substitutions required with Dave Lloyd replacing Danny Purdie after 60 minutes, Haggis making way for Kev Hope and the return of Richie Carr for a tired Paul Chaloner.

It was pleasing to be able to replace key players with such quality, with the players coming on having an impact on the game.

We continued to have the lion share of the game but unfortunately the best move of the game didn't result in the goal it deserved. However, it wasn't long before we had the game wrapped up with Richie Carr poking home a goalmouth scramble.

Not to sound too cheesy this was a great squad performance with all 14 players playing their part.

Final score Glyn Ceiriog 1 Gresford Athletic Reserves 5

The TWA Team Gnome award was convincingly awarded to Max Peate for intentionally launching a half-full water bottle at one of our spectators, hitting him square on the head, out of order young Peate.
