NEWFA HORACE WYNNE CUP FINAL
BRYNTEG 2 GRESFORD ATHLETIC RESERVES 0
“Oh what an awful disappointment” - Th is is how I can best describe our Horace Wynne Cup defeat on Friday night and the only positive thing I can think of is that we lost to a much better side. I say that because experience tells me it is even more heartbreaking when you have lost a Cup final after playing well and deserved to have won.
To be fair to league Champions Brynteg, well marshalled by Manager Dave Jones and sidekick Steve Evans, they were much the better side and won every single personal battle all over the pitch and our lads who have had such a fantastic season played well below their capability and standards already achieved.
The highlight of our match which shows how inferior we were, were three goal-line clearances from the ‘bruvs' Robbie and Keeno, I stand corrected, Broady did hit the post but otherwise we were totally lack lustre and created very little.
Chal took an early knock and was replaced Huw Birko and Richie Carr lacked the zip which earned him the Players Player of the Year tag a week earlier and in fact admitted later he was carrying a hamstring strain which got worse as the game went on and he won't play again this season.
Brynteg got a deserved opener mid way through the first half and it came as a result of some weak defending and star striker Keiran Jones beat Pricey with a shot just inside the left upright.
We have relied on our fitness all season and we were optimistic we would get better as the game went on but to be frank, it was quite the opposite and if anything we went to ‘pot' and got worse.
Pricey pulled of two good saves, Jones fizzed a shot inches wide of both uprights and the writing was on the wall that goal number two was not far away and it came in the 68 th minute when a cross from the right was converted by Steve Davies who out-muscled Robbie on the far post.
We jigged things about, brought on Hughesy and Shaun Winter but never ever looked like getting back into the game which Brynteg dictated from start to finish.

Man of the match Keeno who tried his utmost to stem the flow and worked like a Trojan to make up for Richie's lost ground. Sadly said Ady "He was a bit of a loan wolf"
