NAZAM DRUID WELSH NATIONAL DIVISION ONE
GRESFORD ATHLETIC RESERVES 2 LLANUWCHLLYN 0

Home to Llanuwchlyn, who are enjoying possibly their best start to the campaign for a number of seasons.
Great conditions and not a bad crowd gathered at Clappers to watch this game and the early exchanges looked like it wouldn’t disappoint. We took control of the game from the start with the midfield bossing a physically strong Llanuwchlyn side. This allowed the rest of team to really flow with some superb football being played; the movement was excellent with Owen and Broadie up front giving the away side a real headache. Despite our dominance it looked like it might have been one of those days with their keeper pulling off some fines saves. Firstly a point blank save off the ever glowing red head of Sutty, then came a fingertip stop from a goal bound effort off Broadie and another great block to deny Robbie a goal scoring opportunity. Eventually we got what we deserved when Richie somehow tripped over the outstretched keeper for the referee to point to the spot, up stepped Sutty to slot the ball coolly into the bottom right corner. Probably our best performance of the season to-date organised, efficient and at times sexy football was comment off the line.

Half Time Gresford Athletic 1 – Llanuwchlyn 0

Half time team talk, keep up the good work and go and kill off the game. Far from it as we seemed to leave it in the dressing room with a real lack lustre start to the second half with the away side causing problems down our left hand side from the off. Following a bright start from Llanuwchlyn we seemed to steady the ship and although we didn’t produce the quality of the first period we kept our shape and discipline restricting the away side to no further opportunities. It was then either a moment of brilliance or a bizarre piece of luck when Broadie somehow diverted a cross that he took on the volley with his back to goal to lob the stranded Llanuwchlyn keeper. Only Chris will be able to tell you if he meant it or not, for me a bizarre piece of luck.

Final score Gresford 2 Llanuwchlyn 0

The TWA Team Gnome award was given to Robbie Jones for tricking the ref. into thinking he was playing with the match ball (that still behind the goal) and running goal bound past the confused Llanuwchlyn players.
