Back to cup action with a tricky banana skin trip away to Llay Welfare inspired by the inclusion of ex Gresford favourite Jeff Hennesey.

It was only to be expected with the home side starting brightly putting us under a lot of pressure working at one hundred miles an hour on a very heavy pitch. However, it was left to us to break the dead lock following a defensive mix up, Broady stole in to enable Owen to open his account.

This seemed to dampen the spirits of the home side and within 10 minutes we were 3 – 0 up with Lloydie adding the second and Broady the third with an over-head kick. As a game we seemed to loose our away and the remaining 20 minutes were played out in a lack lustre manner allowing Llay to create a couple of openings.

Despite the home side starting brightly again there was yet another goal flurry with the players spurred on by the wise words from their manager, who back in 1985 had scored a hat-trick on this very pitch and challenged everybody to emulate this great feat.

Owen took up the gauntlet and having latched onto a loose ball he broke clear to chip the advancing keeper to make it 4 – 0, in a matter of minutes it was de javue, only this time he rounded the keeper to slide the ball into the empty net, 5 – 0. The final goal came shortly after with Jason finding some space on the far side and when the ball came to him he coolly placed the ball under the keeper to make it 6 - 0, walking away rather embarrased.

Overall a solid performance with 3 players in the starting line up under seventeen and some key performance by some senior team members.
