Gresford started on the attack and forced two corners the second of which saw the New Brighton keeper tip and Phil Jones header over the bar. Matt Davies then had the ball in the back of the net after Jon Ratcliffe and Phil Jones combined to make the chance, the goal was ruled out for hand ball. Five minutes later Gresford took the lead when Phil Jones latched onto a back pass to score. Dave Lloyd created the next chance but Chris Broadhurst's header was saved by the busy New Brighton keeper. Broadhurst then saw a chip shot come back off the bar. Matt Davies then missed a sitter at the far post after good work by Broadhurst. He made sure with another header on the stroke of half time after good work by Gareth Pugh-Jones and Chris Broadhurst to to give Gresford a two goal advantage at the break

New Brighton had been restricted to long range efforts due to fine defensive work by the Gresford back four with teenager Max Peate having an outstanding game. On sixty minutes Gresford added a third when Owen Roberts beat the off side trap to score at the second attempt. New Brighton pulled a goal back with a fine shot into the bottom corner. Substitute Jason Gray had a couple of chances to add his name to the score sheet but his efforts were saved by the over worked New Brighton keeper. Gresford finished the game off when a Jon Ratcliffe corner was deflected into his own goal by a New Brighton defender.
