NAZAM DRUID WELSH NATIONAL DIVISION ONE
RUTHIN COLTS 0 GRESFORD ATHLETIC RESERVES 4
Time to pick ourselves up from a week’s break and a disappointing result from the previous outing, with a slightly changed squad due to injuries etc.
Despite a late pitch inspection the game was deemed playable on a somewhat dodgy looking pitch, however, we started brightly taking account of the conditions we set about our task well. We took control of the game right from the off with the returning Steven Halliwell marshalling the defence in commanding fashion with time to show the odd flash of Cruyff brilliance (not).
Our direct approach was proving effective with a number of chances being created with Broady orchestrating proceedings from the front Richie Carr slotting in well at full back and Hugh Jones driving forward from midfield leaving the home side at sixes and sevens. These great runs lead to the first talking point of the game when Hugh tried to retrieve the ball from Ruthins keeper only for him to rattle him with at least 4 good punches (fair play about time somebody did it). I don’t know how but the keeper escaped without a booking but seemed to inspire Hugh, and with the next chance he fired home from all of 25 yards to open the scoring.

With the game all but over after a good first half performance we had to go out and kill the game off early on and with credit to the lads we were 3 – 0 within 15 minutes of the re-start. The first came from Matt Davies on his return to action when he turned like a ballerina to coolly slot home following some neat passing, rewarding some tireless work from Matt. The second was a moment of opportunism from Chal spotting the keeper off his line to send the ball flying into the top corner.
With the job done we kept good discipline and a clean sheet was top priority with the subs being used early on to freshen things up, all of which played their part. Then with minutes left on the clock Hugh Jones capped an encouraging performance with another powerful run and good finish.

TWA Team Gnome was awarded to Hugh Jones for being well and truly hammered by the home keeper.
