In a cagey opening it was Gresford who created the first chance but Gareth Pugh-Jones low cross evaded everybody and ended up with Rob Jones firing well wide. Chris Broadhurst and Owen Roberts then combined but there was nobody in the area to get onto the later's cross. A Paul Chaloner mis-kick then presented Venture with a hal chance, Jay Davies crossing from the left and Jason Jones heading over the bar. Jones then created a chance for Carl Evans but he shot straight at Adam Taylor in the Gresford goal. Paul Chaloner and Rob Jones then created a chance for Chris Broadhurst which he headed off target. Graham Sutcliffe was then guilty of hanging onto the ball to long, he was robbed by and a good ball found Jay Davies for the best chance of the game but he fired well wide. Dean Roberts then made a good run into the Gresford penalty area and Taylor had to go full length to turn his shot around the post.

Gresford started the second half on the attack with Robbie Jones feeding Gareth Pugh-Jones whose shot was cleared for a corner, the resulting kick was cleared to Richie Carr who fired well wide. A miskick in the Venture penalty area almost brought a first goal of the game, Simon Roberts in the Venture goal gathering at the second attempt to thwart the threat. On sixty minutes Venture took the lead after a good move, Jay Davies supplying the killer ball to Darren Gallop who fired into the bottom corner for a well taken goal. It was one all ten minutes later, Chris Broadhurst picking up the ball on the edge of the Venture penalty area and hitting a great shot into the top corner. Substitute Max Peate's excellent defensive play prevented Venture having any more chances and a Chris Broadhurst free kick almost put Gresford ahead, Roberts in the Venture goal going full length to turn the ball away for a corner.

Extra time started with the light falling fast and players from both sides feeling the effect of the opening ninety minutes. With the game still all square at half time in extra time the referee had no alternative than to abandon the game before somebody got hurt.
