CASTELL ALUN COLTS 2 GRESFORD ATHLETIC RESERVES 1

The much awaited start of the season kicked off on the slopping pitch at Castell Alun with both sides starting nervously, although the home side had the better of the early exchanges. The ever dependable “Pricey” called into action first to produce a fine save, which was later followed by a goal mouth scramble with the rock “Haggis” making a good clearance.

This was the kick start Gresford needed and began to take command of the game with "Chal” and “Keano” winning the midfield battle kicking down the hill. This control ensured that we finished the last 25 minutes of the half on top producing a great move, involving “Broady” and Owen setting up debutant Josh Page to cooley notch at the far post.

We started the 2 nd period well but failed to take advantage of possession in good areas allowing the opposition back into the game. They bossed the remainder of the game restricting Gresford (kicking up the hill) to very few opportunities. Castell Alun eventually equalised mid-way through the half following a defensive lapse with a fine finish from their striker who'd been lively all game. This proved decisive with the home side now pressing for the win.

This was wrapped up with an excellent finish from the substitute following a rare lapse from “Pricey”.

Despite some encouraging performances, overall could do better.
