GRESFORD ATHLETIC RESERVES 1 GLYNCEIRIOG 0

By Captain Web

Well well well – for the statisticians at the club, with three months of the season gone we have eventually broken our duck on home soil.

There was no Big Sam so the Ant and Dec combo were split up for the first time leaving the way for Geoffrey Hennessey to break into management as a stand in number two. Not the brightest of starts though for this affable club stalwart. His first piece of action was to catch a wayward ball from the warm up – the result being Geoff fell over two buckets and went sprawling. Within seconds and a quick turtle impression he was up and wanting to audit the first aid box. Anxious to impress – the poor lad opened the box upside down and the sparse collection of medical goods were splattered across Clappers.

There was a great dressing room spirit and we all spent a few moments writing our good wishes on a card to Sam who is convalescing at the Nuffield Hospital following a hip replacement operation.

There were a few enforced changes, Pricey had been called up by NEWI Cefn Druids so Craig Trow came in for a delayed debut. Matt Davies arrived at the ground an hour prior to kick off wanting to impress Ady that he was match fit following his morning flight from down town L.A. but Ady wasn't having any of it and handed his shirt to Richie Carr who made way for Haggis at the back.

The game went to plan, we were rarely troubled and I can't remember Trowee having much to do at all Our best chance of the first half fell to Robbie who had three goal bound efforts cleared of the line in quick succession. Richie and Keeno were just shading their excellent duals with big and burly Daf Morris and Hibbo and as we have often found, stop them two and you stop Glynceiriog.

Owen Roberts showed glimpses of what a good little player he will be one day and Daz on the right of midfield is maturing like a fine wine.

Broady and Rob battled hard again without anything to show though. For my mind, Broady is the best forward we have had leading the Rezzies attack in the four years I have been at the club and I struggle to understand how he is yet to get off the mark in open play.

After a barren first half, Ady was quick to utilise the first two of his subs with Chris Hughes replacing Owen and Matt (Pooper Scooper) Williams coming on for Sooty.

The deadlock was broken in the end by Richie Carr who out-jumped his marker to head home from close range a Darren Jones cross.

A hamstring strain for Chal allowed the Girafffe to come in at full back for the last 15 minutes, again emphasising the strength of the squad these days.

Keeno who had one of his more influential games was denied by the crossbar, Broady and Robbie went close, Haggis should have perhaps done better with a close range effort but all in all – most of us went home happy.

In his post match press conference Ady sung the praises of Luke Peate and awarded the MOM award to Richie. I found it difficult to split Keeno and Rich because both were outstanding in different ways, Keeno has this great habit of never giving the ball away and Richie is a workaholic. I think Richie deserved it because after all he did get the winning goal.

MOM Richie Carr -- TWA – Tea Award Geoffrey.
