Llanuwchllyn Vs. Gresford Athletic Res

Saturday 28th. August

“We are up and running” that is how manager Ady Roberts described our 3-1 win at Llanuwchllyn.

There was no shortage of players for the day out to Lakeland on Ronnie Bennett’s luxury coach but Ady was forced into making several strategic changes. Not fully fit, he stepped down from midfield and handed his shirt the ever improving Darren Jones. Matt Davies also dropped into midfield instead of Huw Jones, Luke Peate was on holiday so Jared Tindle made his debut at fullback and Jeff Hennessey came in on the right of midfield. We had a dream start when Robbie Jones paved the way for Richie Lloyd to steer us in front after just 10 minutes but some slack defending let the hosts off the hook when they levelled with a far post header on the half four mark. Matt Davies had had worked like a Trojan all afternoon and he restored our lead after sub Chris Hughes had disposed a Llanuwchllyn defender on the edge of the box. Huw Birkland was handed his debut as a late sub and he won the ball on the right for Robbie to seal the win with a splendid volley which made up for an earlier effort when he was denied by the post.

“Llanuwchllyn is never an easy place to go so bearing in mind there were four 16 year olds playing an active part in the win, it make the success that more special. Haggis just pipped Matty and Soot for man of the match and I was very impressed again with Darren Jones.”

The players would like to record their appreciation to cabaret artist Timmy the Bush KAnagaroo who kept the team amused on the trip home.

FINAL SCORE LLANUWCHLLYN 1 GRESFORD ATHLETIC RES 3

Man of the Match Steve Halliwell

The TWA Tea Award went to Ady and the voting was quite unanimous due to a series of Gaffs. As our first aider, he opened the medical box upside down, doubling up as linesman he fell over Chris Hughes and lost his flag and to cap a hat-trick of incidents in true COLEMAN’S BALLS Tradition he yelled at Sooty who he thought looked injured “Come on now Soot – you can’t pull the curtains over my eyes !!
