Gresford did not look like a side who had lost their last two matches and took the game to Ruthin from the start. It took them twenty minutes to go into a deserved lead. Carl Andrews finding Simon Holloway with a good through ball and the later beating the home centre back comfortably before firing home an unstoppable shot from eighteen yards. Ruthin were almost on level terms five minutes but the woodwork came to Gresford's rescue. Gresford were dominating play and the only surprise was that it took them until four minutes before half time to increase their lead. It was a goal well worth waiting for, Mike Gronnow threating a ball through to Danny Purdie who instantly controlled the ball and chipped the home keeper from thirty yards for one of the goals of the season.

HALF TIME: RUTHIN TOWN 0 GRESFORD ATHLETIC 2

The second half began as the first had ended with Gresford having most of the possession, Ruthin did manage to create a few chances and from one of these Gareth Rowland in the Gresford goal had to be alert to save with his legs as a goal looked possible. Gresford took the opportunity to use all three sustitutes with the returning Richard Bean getting twenty five minutes of action. The last goal came in the last minutes and saw Phil Jones cut in from the right to feed Carl Andrews who made no mistake from the edge of the penalty area to seal a well deserved win and first clean sheet of the season.
